How do I become a VE?
To become a VE (Volunteer Examiner) you must be 18 years old and hold a General Class or higher license.
In general the amateur radio VE teams in the Las Vegas area are accredited by the ARRL/VEC. If you are interested in becoming a ARRL/VEC accredited VE go to the ARRL Volunteer Examiner page for the details.
In general:
- Download the manual.
- Fill out the application form and take a 40 question open-book test. (This is not a form fillable PDF.)
- Turn in your application, test and a copy of your license to the ARRL/VEC. The application may be scanned back in and emailed to the listed email.
- Allow 3 – 4 weeks for the ARRL VE badge, badge clip and certificate to arrive. You are now accredited.
- During the time between your approval and the arrival of your badge, you may work as a VE provided the team leader can verify your approval via the VEC.
